LBC Balikbayan Box Germany to Philippines- here’s how to send

When I first thought about sending a balikbayan box to my family in the Philippines, I wasn’t sure which company to choose. There were many recommendations when I checked online and in the Filipino community on Facebook. Then I searched LBC Balikbayan box Germany. I live in Munich, and the authorised agent is based in Erfstadt, Germany. Nevertheless, I emailed inquiring about how to send a package box. Nearly three months later, my LBC Balikbayan box from Germany arrived in the Philippines. If you plan to do the same, here’s how it went.

What’s the procedure for sending the LBC Balikbayan box

The first step I did was to send an inquiry to LBC Germany. Ms. Ellen is the wife that I most communicated with. She’s a Filipino. We spoke on the phone. We talked about the details of sending.

After that, she sent me the XL balikbayan box to my home in Munich. The empty box came with a form that contained statements like, what’s in my box. It’s like a declaration form to ensure you aren’t sending something illegal.

I filled it with stuff I would love to send and then sent her a message when it was ready to be picked up.

On the morning of the pickup day, she sent me an email containing the label that the UPS had to scan. It was a rush because I didn’t have a printer at home, so I had to run to DM to print it out. I wish she had sent it to me days before so I would have had time to prepare. Moreover, I wasn’t sure when the UPS would arrive, as there was no specific time. LBC couldn’t also tell. They could be early in the morning or late at night- the last delivery time.

At 11:45 a.m on the same day, UPS came to pick it up.

The box is meant to be delivered first to Mrs Ellen. And then they will be the ones in charge of sending to the Philippines. It wasn’t directed to the port straight away. Or, wherever that was.

I had the tracking number to track where my box was heading already.

What you can and prohibited items to send

It goes without saying, there are obviously prohibited items to send along in your box. These are;

  • flammable items such as alchohol, perfume, aerosol
  • Explosive materials
  • Porn Materials
  • Firearms and ammunitions
  • Subversive materials
  • Illegal drugs
  • Corrosive Materials
  • Human remains
  • Pressurised spray cans and aerosol
  • Live animals

If your items don’t belong to any of these categories, then of course, you can send them in! Now you may ask, how about valuable items like Laptops, cellphones, or any gadgets? Yes, you also can! however, you need to declare and purchased at least an insurance! In my understanding, it costs €20. Ask LBC directly for updated price and information!

My only issue with LBC Germany

There were times when they were not keen to respond. Somehow, it took them long to reply to my message, even for only a short inquiry. The man in charge, Mr. Per, is German, and sometimes, I send a message in Tagalog, which is probably why he couldn’t understand my intention.

Needless to say, they apologized for having to reply late and answered my questions right away.

If that happens to you, don’t fret. They will get back to you as soon as they can.

Friendly and useful tips

  • Pack your fragile things in bubble wrap to avoid explosions and getting damaged.
  • Remember to ask for the label in advance so you don’t rush like I did!
  • Take note of the tracking number so you can see the progress of your package box.
  • Ask if you need more clarification. Mrs. Ellen is a friendly person who answers the inquiry whenever she can. (Don’t expect so soon, though! )
  • Make sure to make your box bulky; UPS might not accept it.
  • Try to load your box at the recommended weight. Don’t overweigh it!
  • Be patient! Your LBC Package box for your family will arrive no matter what!
  • Honesty is the best policy. Be honest about what you’ve put in your box. When there’s something important that you did not declare, and it got lost or damaged, LBC won’t take responsibility.
  • UPS won’t bring down your box if you’re on the upper floors; thus, you must do it yourself.

Personal thoughts

Nearly all of the fragile items in my box arrived safely, except for one- a dove body wash that exploded. It surprised me, which was not a big deal, anyway. And it spilled into some of the children’s books next to it. In contrast, the breakable teapot and ceramic bowl stayed intact. It was just the packing.

Sending an LBC Balikbayan Box from Germany to the Philippines was easier than I thought. It was because the company itself is trusted and has been in the industry for a long time. It was also essential that they provided a tracking number and that we could communicate in Tagalog and English- which made the sending at ease. The couple was straightforward, and the entire process was smooth. I liked it that way. It’s only business, no drama. (not the kind we used to have in the Philippines. lol) And the most important factor is, they wrapped my box triple to make sure all the stuff inside was safe. Overall, I am glad I chose LBC Balikbayan Box Germany company. It was a wise decision. And I’ll pick them over and over again. In fact, my second box is on its way to the Philippines again!
